LESSON #4.1: HEALTHY DIET
BALANCED PROPORTIONS
From the
balanced diet table below we see the classes of food and to what category they
belong. Most people most especially those who are below the middle class eat
food to get full not knowing that the balanced portions of these different
foods are important for daily consumption. Most of them will eat Katogo and porridge or maize and
porridge, black tea and cassava or bread forgetting that they are concentrating
on one food category (carbohydrates) ignoring the other important food
categories.

While those
in the middle class also fall into this
mistake eating such a breakfast in the name of reducing “costs”, which in the
long run will cost you your health. Because in such a breakfast there is no
calcium (milk), how strong will your bones be or your teeth? There are no
vitamins; how strong will your immunity be?

We always
take these things for granted then end up spending lots of money on supplement
products who of which surprisingly extract the same contents of these foods, compress
them and preserve them in form of pills and syrups which are very costly. And
you claim to be “saving money”
Ask
yourself how much does it cost me to buy a liter of milk every day for 1 month as
compared to me buying calcium supplements every month? We are a blessed nation
we have all these foods in abundance it’s about time we started exploiting them
and living healthy.
Each meal
of the day should include all the foods in the table below in balanced
proportions. Men need more calories than women. Sometimes the proportions depend
on what type of work one does. Do not eat to the brim to the extent of not
being above to move from your seat, eat what is enough avoid getting food that
you won’t be able to finish. It’s not good to waste food.
In this table you can see how important milk is
in everyday serving of healthy leaving. If you’re allergic to milk soy milk or
any beverage with soya can supplement.
Recall the wise saying "mens
sana in corpore sano" which means in a sound body rests a sound mind.
Never neglect the body which is intimately connected to the mind. This is your
temple. Feed it the finest fuels, exercise daily and care for it as you would
your prized possession - because it is.
