SERVICE PRODUCTION

 This is simply providing services where they are needed. Not necessarily mobile network services or internet services as some people take it literally. This is basically doing a job that does not require transfer of goods e.g. I am doing an advisory and consulting service by providing these lessons.

Although am doing them at pro-bono basis now my target is to make money from them in the near future. Another quick and relateable service I can give is the lawn mowing service. You hire someone to cut your grass and hence pay them. That person has provided a service and you bought it.

The easiest service production one can start is by using their talents and gifts to provide a service for money. You may need capital, you may not, but you will definitely make money.

 

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW CAN YOU START A SERVICE PRODUCTION COMPANY

I will share this idea I have for a service that needs little or no capital. Garbage collecting service (yes I know what you’re thinking; who is going to collect rubbish that is KCCA’s problem). Never mind that just get the concept and idea.

In your neighborhood where you stay the biggest problem is garbage disposal. Right? Because of poor housing order. This is how you’re going to start making money. Go to your neighbors and ask them to separate their waste produce i.e. Organic and inorganic waste. Make a time table on when to collect the garbage at a price say Ugx.1, 000 per bag of waste (If you have start up capital you can buy waste bags or sacks for the rubbish if not you can measure from the volume of the waste bag). 

You can use a cart (Kigali for this case a Mkokoteni -two wheeled cart can do) to move the waste or carrying the bags by hand. Collect the garbage preferably in the morning. Don’t forget to buy gloves and gumboots. Dispose off the garbage to the local garbage disposal bin for the council to collect.

Sales projection: 

 If 1 house hold gives you Ugx. 2,000, then 5 households= Ugx. 10,000. 

If you collect garbage twice a week in 5 different households you will make:

5households x 2times x Ugx.2, 000= Ugx.20, 000 per week

If your clients increase say to 10 households collecting twice a week:

10 households x 2times x Ugx. 2,000= Ugx 40,000 per week

So in one month you would make;

Ugx.40, 000 x 4 weeks = Ugx. 160,000

In 3 months you would make;

Ugx. 160,000 x 3 months= Ugx. 480,000

In one year you would make;

Ugx. 160,000 x 12months= Ugx.1,920,000

 Not bad for just taking away the trash. Yet you started with little or no capital.

Now how is that service provision as a way of making capital?

o   Good ideas alter the power balance in relationships,

That is why good ideas are always initially resisted.

o   The idea doesn’t have to be big. It just has to change the world.

o   The sovereignty you have over your work will inspire far more people than the actual content ever will.
